Food intolerance is much more common than food allergy .
A food intolerance definition:
occurs when digesting foods are a problem/concern.
Food allergy definition:
A much quicker response and potentially dangerous condition when your immune system reacts to a particular food.
Food intolerances can be the host of many health issues and diagnoses from your doctor.
Why is the test important ?
By finding out what foods you are intolerant to, you can make important decisions on your diet by removing the foods from your diet and then slowly re-introducing them to build up tolerance to those foods. This could improve your health and wellbeing.
Symptoms of food intolerance?
There are usually more than one symptom…Sufferers often complain of:
Irritable bowel syndrome
Some have the unfortunate to experience irritable bowel syndrome, migraine and skin or respiratory conditions.
Symptoms don’t always develop straight after eating and can take up to 3 days causing is difficult to determine which food it is.
Is it possible to be affected by foods that are not detected?
Some foods may cause a classical allergic reaction involving the production of a type of antibody called IgE. These will not be detected by any IgG food test. There are also many foods that can cause a reaction in the body without involving the immune system but produce symptoms similar to IgG reactions. For example, amines in chocolate, cheese and red wine may cause migraines; some food additives such as tartrazine can cause hives, rashes and asthma; monosodium glutamate in Chinese dishes produces sweating and dizziness; and ‘Nightshade’ alkaloids in potatoes, tomatoes and peppers can affect the joints. These are very difficult to test, but you should avoid them if you suspect they are affecting you.
